If there’s anyone who knows about love its Herbert Fisher and his wife Zelmyra Fisher. The couple from Creven County, North Carolina has been married for 84 years.
Their amazingly long life together has gained them a spot in the Guinness Book of Records as The Longest Married Living Couple. Iris Godette, grand daughter to the couple, initiated the process and guided the family through the application process.
If Census Bureau reports are to be believed, there are about 6000 couples getting married everyday. But it’s no secret that a number of these marriages don’t even last 84 days, forget 84 years! If you’re one for numbers, this might interest you – only 6% of the women in America have been married 50 years or more.
The Fishers’ children and grand children say the couple has been a lifelong inspiration. So what’s the secret to their “marital longevity” (as the Book likes to put it)? They don’t really have a secret to share but their family insists there’s something magical about the love and respect they couple have for each other.
