The recession is not only taking a toll on our careers but our social lives are affected to. Without enough money, dating seems impossible. After all, to have a good time one’s gotta have deep pockets right? Umm…no. Here are some recession-proof dating ideas for you and your honey to enjoy.

Stay At Home Dates
The easiest way to save is to stay home. But staying home doesn’t have to be boring.

  • Cook for your sweetheart and treat them to an intimate candlelight dinner for just the two of you. Dining at home means you aren’t surrounded by hundreds of other people and can make the most of your time together.
  • If cooking’s not something you enjoy, how about a movie night complete with popcorn, candy, Coke and a dark theater. You could rent a movie projector to enjoy the big screen experience. A movie projector can also help you organize a Drive-In movie in your own driveway or backyard if you like. If you can’t hire a projector, snuggle up with your date on the couch and enjoy the movie on your TV.
  • Indoor games can also be a lot of fun. Challenge your date to a Wii game, or go old school and play Monopoly or Scrabble. Twister is also an awesome couple game.

  • Start a project together. It could be anything from learning to speak French to renovating a room. Learning something new together or making something can be very satisfying and you’ll enjoy it even more because you did it together.

Going Out Dates
Not happy staying home on a date? There’s enough to do outside too.

  • Picnic lunches are fun, convenient and easy on the pocket. Pack up some food, grab a bottle of wine and head out to a secluded spot with your sweetie.

  • Up for some adventure? Enjoy some fun outdoor activities such as hiking, biking together, a swim at the beach etc.
  • Play a sport with your date if you’re both the athletic type. Basketball, baseball, football, soccer, volleyball, tennis…there’s lots of sports a couple can play without a team.

  • If a dinner date is a must do, then why not skip the expensive restaurant and experiment with some of the smaller restaurants and cafes in town. Trying something new with your date will be fun. Good or bad – you’re likely to remember that date because you dared to try a new spot. Lunch can also be a better idea for a date because lunch menus are cheaper and many restaurants offer lunch time specials and discounts too.

So if you’re running short of money but still want to see your date, pick from one of these not-so-expensive options next time. Y’all will enjoy yourselves without worrying about a bill you can’t afford.
