Eartha Kitt, the original singer of one of the most famous Christmas songs, passed away on Christmas Day.

She was one of the few celebrities who have been nominated for a Grammy, an Emmy and a Tony. But what Eartha is probably most famous for is her role as the purring feline superheroine, Catwoman in the 1960s TV show.

Eartha died at the Colombia Presbyterian Hospital in New York, where she was being treated for colon cancer. She was diagnosed about two years ago, and although she seemed to have come out of it initially, the cancer came back. However Eartha continued being Eartha and refused to give in to her disease and performed even two months ago!

Eartha reveleld in her sex kitten image. She was one of the first Black sex-symbols and became a star at a time few Blacks appeared on television, let alone make it big.

May God rest your soul Eartha. You were the best.
