Top 10 US Cities for Singles
By Lateesha | 22-Jan-09 in Culture & Lifestyle
The home of Coca Cola and now the No.1 city for singles, Atlanta has topped this list for the very first time. With “Hotlanta” taking over, last year’s winner San Francisco has been pushed down to No. 2 this year. Other surprises this year were Orlando, that has never featured on the list and Minneapolis, which hasn’t been on the list since 2002! The survey found the 40 best US Cities for Singles but I’ve listed only the Top 10 cities here and also compared how they did on the ‘Best Cities for Online Dating’ list. For the full list, click here.
10. Phoenix, AZ
The 160000 sq. ft. Wrigley Mansion in Phoenix was built by William Wrigley Jr., for his wife Ada. How romantic for Phoenix at No. 10! 21st in online dating however!
9. Orlando, FL
Walt Disney city! More than 27,000 couples have married at Walt Disney Resort since 1991. One of the best cities for online dating, Orlando is No. 2!
8. New York City, NY
The second largest city in the world and a population of over 8 million, but it’s only on No.8 and not doing so well in online dating either at No. 33!
7. Boston, MA
The Worcester Foundation for Experimental Biology in neighboring Shrewsbury is where the birth control pill was developed! Features at No. 15 on the online dating list however!
6. Seattle, WA
Dan Savage’s ‘Savage Love’ relationship advice column started right here in Seattle at ‘The Stranger’ newspaper. At No. 8, the city looks good for online dating too
5. Washington D.C.
The city of presidents and many a happy (or controversial!) romance. Online dating isn’t too bad either with D.C. on No. 10!
4. Dallas, TX
Dallas is the city of Myra Shirley, better known as Belle Starr, the 19th century outlaw and lady desperado! If you’re looking for a date online, you should know Dallas is No. 20 on the list.
3. Minneapolis, MN
The city Prince made famous with ‘Purple Rain’ is high on romance at No. 3. Online daters are happy too with the city making it to No. 6!
2. San Francisco, CA
This is where Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio eloped to. They got married at the San Francisco City Hall in 1954. It’s lucky No. 13 on the online dating list!
1. Atlanta, GA
The city of Rhett Butler and Scarlett O’ Hara is No. 1! If one of the most romantic novels/movies of all time ‘Gone With the Wind’ could be based in Atlanta, there could be something here don’t you think? But if you’re online, it’s not all so good with Atlanta featuring on No. 24.
Happy with the list or do you think the “surveyors” don’t know what they’re talking about? Drop me a line so I know what you think!
